Roadtrip
<200km (3h)
From the airport in Bariloche to San Martin de Los Andes
Itinerary Day by Day
Day 1 – Drive the 7 lakes route
Fly to Bariloche from Buenos Aires, there are more frequencies and better offers. You can fly with Aerolineas Argentinas or Jetsmart. We compare and chose the better price/schedule, but we always aim to take the first flight to make the most out of the day.
✅ Pick-up your car at the airport and hit the road. We rented with ABA in Bariloche and had a great experience.
Drive to San Martin de los Andes through the 7 lakes route. It will be a 189km route that takes around 3 hours. The idea is to make a plan out of the roadtrip. Make sure to stop at every single lake: each one offers an unique landscape and beautiful view.

If you took an early flight to Bariloche like we did, you should be arriving to San Martin de los Andes around lunch. We would suggest having lunch in a restaurant in town or grabbing something to go and enjoy in the Lacar Lake coast just in front of town. You will find a range of restaurants and markets. Be aware that in San Martin everything closes during ‘nap time’. Our favorite spot is the “Vieja Deli” open everyday from 8am to 12am.
After you checked in to your stay, depending on what time it is and how you are feeling you could either take a stroll in town or pack some afternoon snacks and head to Lago Hermoso. This is Catu’s favorite lake in the area, it’s a 40km/45 min ride from town. A beautiful spot to enjoy some mate, the sunset and even go for a swim.
Where to eat in San Martin de los Andes ?
- Pizza Cala – Great argentina-style pizza and empanadas…a must try!
- Vieja Deli – Always a good idea, and open all day long: breakfast, lunch, afternoon, dinner.
- Doña Quela – homemade pasta, ideal for a cozy dinner.
- Mamuschka – amazing artisanal ice cream and chocolate.
- Fiora Cafe – a modern speacilty coffee in town.
Day 2 – Lake day at Yuko beach
Start your day as early, and after breakfast in San Martin – either at your hotel or at a local caffe (we recommend you La vieja Deli) it’s time to hit the road and go to paradise.
👉🏼 Pack a swimsuit, towels, water and some snacks – you won’t find anything there.
Drive to Yuco beach – 26 km from San Martin de los andes, around 40 minutes. Keep in mind that it’s a gravel road(no pavement), so make sure your car is ready, be careful and take your time. It’s quite a bumpy road, but we can guarantee the location is worth it.
Enjoy a lovely lake day in paradise, if you go before the summer months (November/December) you might be lucky enough to have this spot for yourself, like we did : )

Day 3 – Villa La Angostura & Circuito Chico in Bariloche
Pack your bags and check out of your stay it’s time to leave San Martin de los Andes. You can have breakfast in town or buy a local specialty at Delicias de la Patagonia for the road. We recommend you trying criollitos and chipa. Drive to Villa Langostura through the 7 lakes route. The trip is 108 km from San martin de los Andes, should take around 2 hours. Enjoy the scenary and don’t hesitate to make a few spots!
Villa Langostura is a lovely small town, and the ideal stop for your lunch break. Make sure to visit the coast of the lake, it is beautiful. Muelle Bahia Brava. If you don’t have a lot of time you can skip this stop and head straight to Bariloche.
Drive to Bariloche, 82.8 km from Villa La Angostura (around 1h30). Check in to your hotel and head to Circuito Chico for the most beautiful panoramic views of the area.

If you still have time you can walk around the city ‘San Carlos de Bariloche’. Before heading for dinner in the area and get ready for your flight back the day after. Night in Bariloche.
Where to eat in Bariloche
- El Patacón – a classoc restaurant to try some local patagonia dishes.
- Blest – artisanal beer brewery ideal for a patagonian bear and some nice food.
👉🏼 If you have your flight on the evening of your third day we wuld suggest skipping the stop at Villa La Angostura and heading straight to Bariloche. So you can have a quick tour before heading back to Buenos Aires.
